Well I think I have finally solved the problem with my E4OD in my 94 F-150. It was giving a VSS sensor error and I have posted here a couple of times about various issues with this thing. I have been fighting this thing for 3wks and truthfully it has been kicking my a##. But tuesday I stumbled on a similar problem in post at a bronco site and they said to change out the PSOM module because the module would go bad and not let the signal pass through to the PCM and it would give a VSS sensor code. I took out the PSOM and tried to find the chips on it but they are no longer available but I did re-solder all the joints and replaced a couple of electrolytic capacitors and one transistor and plugged it back in and what do you know my last problem went away. Looks like there are no new ones to be had but still quite a few in the boneyards but can you trust them? There are a couple of places on line that will repair them for 2-300 but I think mine will be fine, I hope. So hopefully it is finally solved and for everybody out there with an E4OD make sure you get more than one opinion if you are having problems because 9 times out of 10 it will be misdiagnosed.
had the same problem -I just swapped the whole instrument cluster out -been through 3 so far and one solenoid pack
but she is as good as new -working like a charm
I don't know what problems you were having. Was it acting like it wouldn't shift out of first gear? That is the problem I have with my 93 F-250. Sometimes ican shut off the engine, then restart it, and it will be fine. other times I have to do it several times, before it will act right.
I had a whole bunch of problems. First thing I found was the filter dropped into the pan fixed that. Then the MLPS sensor was acting up fixed that then the VSS code replaced that and it still threw that code so I put an oscilloscope on it and the signal was fine and within specs and then I found a link to some TSBs and some troubleshooting tips on this tranny that were really helpful and found out the code 452 could also mean the PSOM and after looking at the prints I found online the signal from the VSS goes into this module on your speedo and from there it gets buffered into a square wave and goes into the PCM which controls the tranny, if this signal is missing it will give extremely harsh shifts and do alot of other weird things.
2fords does it not shift at all out of first? Even when you do it manually? Have you checked the fluid and filter? Like I found out this filter is only held in by the o-ring I made a tab for mine to keep it in place really easy to do there were some write ups here someplace on that. After that I would check the MLPS subfords has alot of good information on this subject so look up some of his old posts he has the tech stuff you need to do all the checks. If you do need to buy a new MLPS I would check online you can usually get the sensor for about half the price of a new one from ford. Google it and it should come up sorry don't have a link for you.
It doesn't shift either manually or automatically. Tranny was replaced about 3 years before this all started, but it didn't have alot of miles driven on it since then. I would guess somewhere around 10,000 miles or less. Since the truck is pretty much a gas hog, it stayed parked most of the time while I drove my 92.
I'll check those posts as you suggested. Right now is a good time to figure all this out, as I am about to get my new engine put in.
I do have another tranny and transfercase, that came with my new engine, but I have no idea of it's condition. I was told the engine has around 60,000 miles on it and appears to be in great condition.
