Hello,Im new to this particular site BUT I have subscribed to many others just like it...I know ALL ABOUT the search option but Im not exactly finding my answer... Here Goes...I just bought a 2010 F-350 CC Lariat... 1) Has anyone ever used the Uplifter Switches to power an Overhead 12V DVD player? Im not interested in hooking it thru the Navigation/Radio...2) How "exactly" do I make a connection at the blunt cut wire? I have a (red + and a black- that I would need to hook to the switch blunt wire...Thanks for your help!!!
DVD IS ALL INSTALLED!! CHECK OUT PICS ON NEXT PAGE!!! THANKS AGAIN FELLAS!!!
Check out the link below for detailed information on upfitter switches for your truck on page 4.
You will need to choose a circuit that supplies sufficient power for your device. I would choose the circuit with the lowest amperage that will supply your load which will leave the larger amperage circuits for future use.
My recommendation for connection is a wire nut wrapped tightly with electrical tape or a screw termination connection. Many people use butt splices, however this is not a good connection device IMO. I have used them, however it is not my preferred connection method. The red wire (+) from your device will be connected to the wire from the upfitter switch and the black wire (-) from your device will be connected to ground.
Greg, Thanks for that info... The link you directed to me is like Chineese... Im not "wire" savy...Can I ask you, I got ya on the "hot" wires...Where do I hook up the "ground"??Thanks Again!!Barry Cassese
What you actually want to do is connect the black wire to the negative terminal of your battery. Since the negative terminal of the battery is connected via a strap to the frame of your truck you can connect the black wire to any unpainted steel component. Typically I find a small nut and crimp an eyelet onto the black wire and place it under the nut. It must be a nut which is securing something steel, for example it can't be a nut used to secure the dash. This would provide a steel to plastic connection and you need a steel to steel connection. You want to make sure you have a good ground otherwise the device will not operator or may operate intermittently. If you want to make sure you have a good circuit simply connect an electrical tester between the upfitter switch wire and the selected grounding point. When the upfitter switch is on you should have 12V.
Awesome! I got the DVD player powered up on swith 4.. Swith 3 didnt have enough juice....Now I have to figure how to run the wire from the roof to the blunt wire... Any Suggestions?Your a BIG help!! Thanks Alot... I love these sites!!

do you have the overhead console, remove that, take the plastic off the door post at the drivers side window t the windshield.. snake a new wire up from the dash to the roof, across the headliner..
I'm pretty sure that switch 3 & 4 have the exact same load rating. Switch 1 & 2 are 10amps and 3 & 4 are 30 if I remember correctly.
On my truck (2006) upfitters 1 & 2 are rated for 30A and 3 & 4 are rated for 10A. However, the schematic from www.fleet.ford.com for the 2010 model shows 1 & 2 to be rated for 30A, 3 to be rated for 10A, and 4 to be rated for 15A.

Acording to my manual... Switches 1 & 2 are 30A ... Switch 3 is 10A ... Swith 4 is 15A...I tried the 10 first but it wasnt enough so i went to the 15A..I will take your advice and take those 2 pannels off... TYVM!!
Is there some particular reason you want the DVD player on an upfitter switch? Seems like a waste of a switch to me. It should be wired into any circuit that is live with the ignition. Like the customer access circuit.

Come to think of it... If I tap into any other wires... Ford will VOID my warranty....I would rather use the switch... They cant say "crap" that way!!
