i got 6 new tires last night and now my wait to start light dosent work any more and when you turn the key to start some times it just clicks and i have to turn the key off then on again till it will turn over any ideas would be great after it warms up out side im going to clean all the terminals i hope my starter is not bad you cant just buy sylinoids any were around here
mine was doing the same problem replaced the starter and it works great now ... just when using it only crank 20 seconds at a time then let it cool for 2 minutes..as for the WTS light i think that means a bad GP relay? but ever since i replaced my GPs my truck starts almost intantly on the second or third crank ( use only motorcraft GPs part # zd1a)
the relay is new and all the glow plugs motorcraft it starts on first hit of the key when starter works never cranks for more then 10-20 seconds no matter how cold it gets
wait to start light dosnt come on any more since i got tires last night is when all problems started glow plugs still work like they should when it will turn over but it just clicks when it wont turn over but if i turn the key off then on by the third time it cranks over instead of clicking but glow plugs do work like they should it was like 30 degrees when i started the truck today but the wts light didnt come on once it cranks over it starts right away
Loose wire on the relay, failing starter relay, bad wire between starter solenoid and starter(on the unit itself.) Then there is the wild possibility of a bad neutral safety switch. I wonder what the tires have to do with anything aside from the installation process but i bet the wire from starter solenoid to starter motor is failing. How old is the starter?? How about the starter relay on fender? Check all those wires and connections on the GP relay for that WTS issue.
the starter was put on by previus owner about a year ago and just mention tire cuase thats when problem started but i will check all wires so far the ones i checked looked clean and in good condition but i mite take the starter to get tested
It can be very possible it is the starter selonoid but a bad connection (low voltage) can cause the selonoid to act like this.
check the two phillips screws holding the solenoid to the starter.mine came loose and with a 1/2 a turn to snug it up all is well.......its really an overlooked issue i have found out.this check has saved a few guys on here the cost of a starter
definetly check the ground cause my grandpas was doing that and we had to clean the ground wire and the spot we hooked it to in order to get a good connection
