You can, it is better if you have the same engine and tranny. If you have a 66 352 str. drv., a 78 351M auto is not a good candidate. You will have to swap the steering column at the same time.

The 78 will work for everything except the power steering pump bracket, and you possibly will need the appropriate pulleys too.

He didn't say, but if he had an I-6 why wouldn't a 78 I-6 pulley set work?

Ford changed the P/S pump in 1978 on
everything except Econoline's.
Not only is the pump different, but so are the brackets and the P/S pressure hose.
The 1978 and later pump is smaller in diameter than the pump used 1965/77, and has a plastic reservoir and dipstick.
The 1965/77 pump has a steel reservoir and dipstick.
Where will anyone find 1978 and later P/S pump brackets that will fit an FE engine?

If I'm not mistaken, the bolt spacing on the front surface of the pump is the same on both styles of pumps. Also the shaft diameter is the same. So I think the 78 pump, hose and gearbox could be used with the older bracket and pulley.
May be wrong. (we'll see)
