71K on my 08 SD - RADIATOR NOT COVERED
Called my local dealer (Jordan Ford) here in San Antonio - gave them TSB 09-23-1...said it had been replaced w/ TSB 11-12-4 and that my leaking radiator IS NOT covered only the thermostat is. i said what if the thermostat is causing the problem he put me on hold and said no they would still not replace it, the radiator isn't covered up to 100K....only the thermostat....
Am i not saying the right things to these guys? Try another dealership?? It's a super slow leak on the bottom left, don't think it's the hoses, happens where the metal crimps come together.....
just over christmas in the middle of west tx the Transmission Temperature Sensor went out on me, truck went into limp mode at 1AM in 20 degree weather - wasn't pretty. wife wants me to sell it.

Marcus,
11-12-4 is the latest TSB release by Ford for this concern. Here is where it is confusing, the tsb states that a radiator failure can be cause by hot and cold cylcing of the cooling system caused by coolant leaks at the radiator hoses internal o-rings.
SO, if you have a radiator hose o-ring seal leaking AND you radiator is leaking then Ford attributes the radiator failure to the leaking o-ring. Those o-rings are covered for 5 yr/100000 miles and are determined to be the root cause of the failure so all things related to the failure are covered.
If you have ONLY a radiator leaking, then Ford attributes that failure to the radiator itself and radiators are only covered for 3yr/36000 miles.
This has been an extremely confusing issue, I have even argued with other Ford techs over the meaning of this tsb and what is covered but what I have stated above is the meaning of the tsb. Unfortunately I am sure a lot of people have paid for radiators when they shouldn't have because 99% of the time, these vehicles leak coolant from either the radiator or the radiator hose o-rings.
Also, thermostats are no longer inspected as part of the TSB because the latest programming released by Ford includes a monitor and new code which will be generated if the thermostats fail.

jboczar,
Just to clarify - the newest tsb on this problem is 11-12-4, correct? Im in SC and just forked over $1200 today for a new rad. Ive got and 08 with 75000 miles that i bought 6 months ago. The 6yr/100k is still in effect along with some type of customer service protection plan that is in effect until march with unlimited mileage (this according to someone @ ford customer service in michigan) I found my leak. It was on the top drivers side. You could see where corrosion was beginning. The service manager said only the radiator was leaking. I asked about the hoses and the t-stats. He said that the technician didnt indicate a problem with those. However he never said they were definately checked at all. My question is this - would it be worth a call to the SM to ask point blank if the hoses and tstats were checked or would that be a waste of time?

Just got my truck back they replaced the top radiator hose(small leak) and both thermostats yes the bypass was hyper extended and now i can tell the diffrence all the way back to the first time the thermostats opened and blasted me with insanely hot air in the cab, no more rolling sauna , i thought that was just the way it was. no they didnt replace the radiator

So my 2008 F250 is at the dealership now. 32,000 miles and they say the radiator is cracked and needs replaced. Of course not covered under my Powertrain warranty. Looking at $1153 for new one.
I did call Ford directly at 800-392-3673. I encourage everyone to call that has experienced this problem, and open up a complaint with them. Unlikely - but maybe if enough people complain directly to the source, they may offer assitance at some point.

20k past your warranty. What do you want? Do you seriously think GM or Chrysler would give you any different answer, even if the circumstances were exactly the same?

my 6.4 F250 with 56k had a radiator leak about a month ago. took it to a dealer that seemed to know what they are doing. i spoke to him about the TSBs and explained my frustration. The service writer told me he would contact ford and ask for assistance on the repair. He said the total job would cost about 1500 and Ford was willing to pick up about half the cost. Cost me just under 900 out the door. still not free, but better than 1500. I have a feeling ford paid for the parts and i paid for the labor.

While fixing an oil leak that take 25hrs the shop noticed that my radiator is cracked. They told me that they tried to get it replaced under warranty, but it's not covered. They said there are updated hoses. This is the first time I have had a radiator issue. Any ideas if I can get this covered? $1000.00
