I'm sure the info is here but I haven't seen it.
I'd like to disable the 2ndaries on my carter 600cfm stock 4bbl ('87 f150 351) carb. How do I do this?
I don't need the performance/power of the 4 bbl.
I drive w/a very light foot alway's and am just not sure when the 2ndaires come on.
Had another 351 4bbl but w/mechanical advance. I could disconnect the 2ndaires unless I needed them getting me the better gas milage I'm after now.
This trucks a '87 heavy 1/2 ton crew cab/extended bed w/ factory dual range auto trans (even badged as such behind the back wheels) from the factory getting around 14 mpg ........ runs excellent and hate to mess with the jet's etc.
yeah, 14mpg is very good. Also, if the secondaries don't work until you nail the throttle, disabling them will net you no mileage gains the way you drive, but will not give you the extra power that you could be getting, if you should ever need it.
I expect you're all right guy's. "goliath" is excellent for what he's built 4 which is trailer towing. When I bought him he was set up as a 5th wheel hauler.
I use him for vintage travel trailer towing and shall leave his engine alone.
Thank you all for the input
Don't fool with it! It won't do you any good. Also, there may be an time when you need the extra power to pull something or just accelerate up a steep hill while towing.
wow how about u give him the info he was wanting and stop with the leave it alones.
u can adjust the floats to where they wont let anymore fuel in to the rear fuel bowl...
but when u do this and leave it like this for long enoughu will have to rebuild the carb. or it will leak... uhm there are some other ways that i cant think of right now
but if u just want the primarys then u could prolly find a 2bbl pritty cheap and throw a rebuld kit in it...
wow how about u give him the info he was wanting and stop with the leave it alones.
I'm confused, if there is no extra fuel consumption unless you hammer the throttle (which never happens) aren't you looking at a theoretical 0mpg gain?
