Are you sure your truck has a PCM?? When I look it up in my 1990 Shop Manuals and EVTM I do not see a PCM for the IDI. The PowerStroke engines have a PCM but the IDI with E4OD has only an EEC module.
I think hes refering to the transmission PCM, is he not? I just had mine rebuilt with a lifetime warranty. it was much cheaper than buying new and no used ones to be had. I found one used one when I was looking for it but the guy wanted $200 and no gaurantees.
z scpaes who rebuilt yours? do you have a phone # to them ? do they have a web site?
what was your problem with your truck that pointed to the pcm,eec or what ever it is called
Autosourcecomputers.com but I cannot recommend them. these guys answered the phone but often coulnd'nt answer my questions as to how long it would take or if the item had shipped. they called my back twice asking for more money. Once when I contacte them they told me my unit was done and had shipped, a week later I called them and they said they were still working on it. the whole process was supposed to be a rebuild of my original unit, they said mine was fried and wouldn't be usable. what I got back deffinately looked to be the original unit. I paid $200 up front and then another $175 at some point. total time was 9 weeks from shipped to returned, they quoted 2weeks on the phone. I can say that I'm satisied with the results, the transmission is shifting properly and it wasn't before.
The Diesel mechanic that works on my truck is one of only a few diesel mechanics that are certified by ford motors, all the rest- I'm sure are good mechanics- but certified by someone else, then sent to work at ford. He's good, he drove my truck to the end of his driveway and told me what was wrong (PCM). the transmission was not shifting into lower gears. the take off was from 4th gear. I could manually shift it from first but it felt like it was slipping.
I just checked and autosource website is down. I have a phone number but I'm not sure you want it.
ADTMAN, I use that site quite a bit. Just alot of junkyards on the net. I just search by distance to see if there are any close or I use Craiglook.com.
i'll call them , i'm stuck,, did your tack stop working also when this happened?
If your tach isn't working, the PCM won't work right. Fix the tach first! it might be your only problem. Do a search here, theres been a couple threads on tach problems and fixing them.
Number for AutoSource is no longer available, I tried it just now. 877-877-8939 Wish I could be of more help. You might try these guys Atlantic Automotive indutries 877-300-2863 I spoke with Randy at EXT110 he was very helpful but I went with autosource for the better price which didn't turn out to be any better. Good luck
