Comfortably is relative.
'73 - '79 will give you upgrades built in, but the rear frame is longer, so you need to figure out a way to make the bed fit and look right.
'70 - '72 will give you identical frame measurements, and you can get the same power steering and power brake setup as in the later '70s, but you will need to still harvest parts from a '73+ to get disc brakes.
Further, since changing the frame means conflicts with VINs, you might want to reconsider.
I found it easier to keep my '66 frame and upgrade it.
I must say that I did a frame swap and although it is very doable in hind sight I would do as Banjopicker suggests. I would have actually installed an aerostar or Mustang II front end is your really wanting to lower it a bit. But just my opinion.
I put a 66 on 79 frame and would not do it the same again. Upgrade what you have. Unless your just bored and need something to do. I don't plan to leave Arkansas so my VIN problem should be OK.
I think you meant later model parts. changeing the frame itself gives you nothing extra however the drivetrain parts up tp 79 will fit and give you the same thing as a frame swap unless your frame itself is bad.
