Towng Mirrors

Hi all, first post here. I have a 2004 Ex with the small mirrors. The one on the drivers side has the defroster and the directional in the glass, the passengers one only has the defroster. I bought my Ex used last March from a wholesaler and did not notice the difference then. Recently while at the local Ford dealer one of the mechanics told me that both mirrors should have the directionals. I tow a 35' camper and want to upgrade the mirrors to the large ones with the defroster and directionals. I do not want to do any modifications or have to run additional wiring. I was looking on Ebay for the larger mirrors and have seen several sets for around $350.00 with defroster and directional. Does anyone know if the connector is round or rectangular? Also is this a direct mount up? Thanks for any help.

Go to the SEARCH tab above and type in:

new trailer tow mirrors with turn signals

It will tell you everything you need to know about how to do it.

There are also instructions on how to remove the door panel posted somewhere too.

Mine were a direct plug and go, just did not have the brown wire to work the running lights, but the turn signals worked.

Good luck and welcome to FTE.

My Ex was the same way, had the directional in the drivers mirror only, dont know why. I upgraded to the tow mirrors with defrost, directionals, and parking lights. The wire was there on the passanger side, it was just clipped off at the harness. It was replaced at some point with on that didnt have directional. I did have to run a wire for the marker lights, those marker lights give the ex a whole new look whan the lights are on!!

Thanks for the replies. What did you do to make the marker lights work? Where did you run a line from? Also where did you guys buy the new mirrors from? Since your passenger mirror was like mine how did you get the directional on it to work? I read the thread about the mirrors but got somewhat confused since some of the posts where pertaining to the super duty truck line and mirrors.

All works the same X and SD.
Call Ed the Parts Guy and ask him to be sure. With you being an 04 it should be plug and done.
I had to run a brown wire from each door to the headlight switch.

Now, if you go with the newest mirrors.............

They all fit, all the years. You just might have to do a little rewiring......but it is really easy. My Ex had the wire for the turn on the passanger side, but the mirror side of the harness had the wire clipped. It took me about an hour to put both on and doing a little rewiring. I got aftermarket ones on ebay. It is a gamble though, as some aftermarket ones are crap. I was lucky and mine were good. Most common problem with the aftermarket ones is when you are driving at highway speeds, the mirror glass can vibrate. It is an easy mod, but it took a little getting use to them. They have a little more of a blind spot on them and you have to get use to using the convex mirror on the bottom. When I first put them on, I didnt like it. I now have got use to them and love them! They also make the Ex look more stout and agressive!!
