I just got my 79 F-100 running. I did what most ppl do to find horsepower is to get rid of all of the vacume lines and the thermactor smog pump. But with all this hot weather the truck will run fine but all of a sudden the truck just dies like there is no fuel getting to the carb. What can i do? I also got rid of the vapor canister if that has any thing to do with it. Also my truck has a C-4. it looks brand new but it originally had a FMX and the Transmission wont go into park. Ive adjusted the linkage's but im all out of room to adjust it. and i was wondering if any one knew where the Kickdown cable is supposed to attach to on the Transmission. All help will be greatly appriciated.
You did not tell us what motor you have. The trans may have the wrong linkage for a truck. You would have to find a truck trans and look at it too see if the lever is the correct one. You can check if the park works, by removing the linkage and putting the truck all the way into park to see if it holds. If not you may have broken the lock ratchet inside the trans. Ford trucks do not use kickdown cables, they have a kickdown linkage that conects to the carburator.
Yep thats right,if you plugged off the tank line that hooked to the tank. Now you are forming a vacuum in the tank causing slow delivery of fuel to the pump. You can either reinstall the canister and hook up just the tank line,or if possible{I dont think so},find a gas cap that has a vacuum vent or such to fit the neck. For the trans,I like what Dave said about the shift linkage. There are different arms and rods for cars vs. trucks, therfore the amount of travel needed is diffent also.
