water temp?

What is a good hot temp for a I-6 240. Mine runs hot around 160 and someone told me that is not hot enough. What is a good temp.

180 to 195 is somewhat typical. Warmer temps usually result in improved MPGs and decreased wear, however, the margin for overheating is decreased. In warm climates, a 180 degree thermostat is recommended if the truck runs ok otherwise. Some vehicles run rich if they are too cool and tend to bog down when acceleration. Best answer is probably run at the temperature that works best for your truck.

I totally agree that 180-195 degrees is about right. This will allow the engine to heat up more quickly and run well with no choke. Plus, you can get more cab heat in the winter (if your climate requires it). You should be able to obtain thermostats in this range for the 240 (usually they are sold in 160, 180 and 195 opening temperatures). However, the 160 degree thermostat probably isn't hurting anything, if you choose to leave it that way.
