4.2 needs more power HELP!!!!!!!!
Hi everybody!!!!!! I have a 2008 f150 with a five speed and was wondering if I could get more power by changing a gear in my differential I have a 71 Glasspar 22 ft boat that I pull around in the summer and have a hard time getting up a few hills if you know what I mean this truck is geared very high and does not do very well pulling a load. Im willing to sacrifice some gas milage for a little more nads on the highway would just like to keep up with traffic!!! LOL!!! thanks for any help, Rob

A gear change will just let you better use the power you have, not give you more. You simply change the compromises of the powertrain, trading low rev cruising and higher mpg for more pulling ability.
What ratio do you have now? There should be an axle code on the plate on the door, or a tag on the axle itself.
Are you ready to spend over $500 to have the gears changed?
