Ford F350 with a Navistar 7.3L IDI with a defunct IP
I am trying to remove the 3 external TorqX bolts holding my
IP to the drive gear. I am told they are Loctited so they
will require lots of torque to break them loose. I have an
external TorqX socket set. The E12 is too small and the E14
is too large. Guess what! I can't find an E13 anywhere. It
appears they don't exist. Every set I looked up on the web
jumps from 12 to 14 like mine. I have an extensive 6 and 12
sided socket set including metrics. I only found one that even
seemed appropriate and thought for a second that the bolt was
turning. Don't try to guess.
Has anyone unscrewed any of these bolts? Tell me how you did it
and how well the bolts survived.
I hate to argue with you 87crewdually, but these babies have 6 lobes and sure look exactly like external TorqX bolts that my set has been on before sans the size.

I'm not here to argue so do what you have to do. I'm talking from experience as with all my posts and I know it's a 12 point 5/16 socket. No offense but a username like toolman I thought you'd be able to tell the difference. Good luck.
I owe you a giant apology. My only excuse, lame as it is, is that the bolts are black, everything is coated with black oil, it's recessed, and the serpentine was in the way. I saw the few lobes I could see, locked TorqX in my brain, and never looked again. Once you said 12 sided, I went down, put the flashlight on it and what do you know. 12 sided. It turned out to be a 5/16" fit. If you hadn't told me it was 12 sided I probably never would have looked close. I tried every socket in my set on those bolts except the 12 sided ones cause I have tape over them to keep them from falling all over the case.
Not a problem, the first one I worked on there was some rough language going on. Mainly because I only had a 12 point 5/16 in 1/4 drive and that didn't cut it.

When you're right, you're right.
It doesn't come down to apologies. Now you know and will remember for the next time. I hate being blunt sometimes, but it kills me when someone asks a question, you give them an answer, and because it's not what they expected to hear they disagree. It's funny, if you didn't know the right answer to begin with than how can you say my answer is wrong?
All good, enjoy the forum, there's alot of knowledge here.
