Axle Codes
I sure could use some help from you experts out there! I need to decipher these axle codes from my '77 F100, so I can try to find a replacement. (I broke a couple teeth on the pinion gear!! OOPS!) Here's the code:
3.07 D7TA-B3F
751400-1 MEX
I know that the "3.07" is the gear ratio, and that the "MEX" is where it was made, but the rest is Greek to me. Is this a Dana rear end, or Ford, or what? Much appreciated.

The '77 F100 came with the Ford 9". Lucky for you, this means that you have a HUGELY popular axle assembly. Call Reider Racing (number below) and give them your codes, they will be able to help you on deciding what to do. I have worked with them in the past, and found them to be THE BEST at what they do! Also, the Ford 9" has the drop-out third member; making gear changes a snap. If you're competent with basic handtools and procedures (get a manual, though), you should have no problem doing the job yourself, saving yourself much money.

Hey, Avatar, thanks for the insight. I admit that I don't know squat about axles and gears and such, but I do know, (just because I had to put a new seal on it,) that my rear axle is not a 9 inch. Do you suppose that the existing axle is not original? I guess I could specify that my 77 F100 "Custom" has an 300 I6 and a manual three speed tranny, in which case, a larger rear end might seem excessive. As far as the third member, I assume that by that, you mean the chunk. My whole axle is solid. Anyhow, thanks for the number, I will give them a call. In the meantime, if you or anyone knows of a site on the web that can decipher axle codes, let me know.

Axle Codes
Dana has a website that can identify your axle if in fact it is a Dana axle. Go to Dana.com and go to the "automotive" section. Once you are there go to "services". On that page there is a selection for "The Expert". The expert is the program that will I dentify your axle if it is a dana.
