Hey I might be looking to buy a Ring & Pinion Gear Set for my 4.9l '86 and was wonderinig what ratio would be the best for maximum performance. I dont know that much about this so any insight would be great thanks.
It depends, what are you looking for? Are you looking for top end (not too likely with a 6) or low end? What gears are in it now, and what tire size. What type of driving do you do?
Well i want low end and it is the stock gears now i dont know what it is. I have 15x7's radials on the front and 15x8's radials on the back. I use it as a daily driver but i want it to have as much kick as possible
3.73's are a good gear set for get up and go, while still maintaining some good freeway manners, but 4.10'a will really get you up and going BUT you sacrafice freeway top end with them. What transmission are you running? You might be able to get away with 4.10's if you have an overdrive, but I do not think you will be all that happy with them since you have a cruiser.
Waht is the stock ratio for a '86 truck the trans is tock and idk how to find out what is is
There are several possibilities; if your axle has never been replaced, post the
AXLE code from the Safety Certification Label on the driver's side door jamb,
somebody here can decode it for you. If that's not possible - or you think
somebody replaced the axle - there should be a tag on the rear pumpkin, post all
the numbers on it here. Failing both of those, jack up the rear end, turn one
wheel, count the number of revolutions required to make the driveshaft rotate
one full revolution.
