I've been searching the forum for the past couple months with some minor issues I've had with my 00'Navigator. I must say there's a LOT of good info here! So, thanks in advance for your help.
Now for my *new* issue: A couple days ago I was driving and it seemed as though my truck switched to 4h by itself. Then last night I had to do an 8 point turn to even get in my parking space due to the bucking/binding/popping that seemed to be coming from the front end when turning. After doing a search on here I'm 95% sure my issue's with my transfer case(fluid, motor, chain, something?). I just pulled the #104,30amp fuse from under the hood. Tried to switch to 4h/4L, with no lights on, I drove around my complex with zero issues. My question is: Will this harm anything driving without the fuse in there? I don't want to do anymore damage than there already is. My next step is fluid change since its the cheapest and i'm sure needs to be done anyways. Then I'll test drive and go from there. I just have to get to and from work and take my kid to school till the weekend arrives. Thanks again!
Are your tires the same size? Not just by the letter and number, were they put on at the same time? If they are different at all say you put two new tires on the back and the fronts have 50,000 on them the two sensors that read the axle speeds will see that the rear axle is spinning faster like it is slipping and ingage the front axle. By pulling the fuse you have turned the automatic 4 x 4 off. So my first idea is that the transfer case is ok but who really knows. Others on here have posted about this and some times it has been tires causing this. I don't know if the sensors going out could cause this or not.
I think pulling the fuse is a safe thing to do. There are people on here that have installed a switch to do the same thing. I pulled the fuse when I had a flat tire and put the spare on which was brand new until I got the tire fixed. So I think that is a good thing to do.

If you put the fuse back in, do you have any control over switching between A4WD, 4WDHi, 4WDLow?
with the fuse in I can switch with no problems.
I just drove 10 miles round trip with it to pick up my daughter from school w/the fuse pulled and it drives better than it has in a while. I am in need of new tires at the moment. Since the truck was parked for a couple years so, these need to be replaced asap. There seems to be no harm without the fuse... guess i'll drive it as is, for the time being. Not really any need for 4x4 in Vegas anyways. Thanks for the help!
I would wait until you replace the tires, then put the fuse back in and see if it works correctly. Like Omahastro1 mentioned above, it could just be a tire issue.
