My Expy's lights-interior and exterior blink rapidly all the time. Battery and Alt are new. Grounds are good, terminals cleaned etc. I cleaned the connections at the solenoid and put dielectric on them the other day, situation went away for a day and is back. Anyone have an idea what to look for?
voltage is good. A friend who is a Ford Tech says he had a similar issue on a super duty and it was corrosion at the solenoid. Obviously that didn't fix it in my case, no corrosion present. All other system grounds I can find are decent, not corroded etc. This mus be a major ground as it effects the headlights and interior lights. Anyone have an FSM that will show such information?
Truck runs well and we are not discharging the battery at all.
Where is the engine ground? I'll start there. since I dont' know where it is I'll need to check it first!
The first one quit quite abruptly. We've had the problem prior to the replacement. I want to check some grounds but I don't know where they are. Where is the engine ground? There's one on the firewall near the battery and it's ok. I can get the chiltons online but it's through the library and really no help at all.
You have to get the factory manuals usually to find all the ground locations. If you feel something may not be grounded properly, there is no reason why you could not add a ground wire.
I guess I'll have to dig around and find a FSM. The Expy is going into reserve status in the next couple months and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on it. Just have to keep it operational for the kids to take to track practice.
