tuned Duramax??

I know I probably could have searched but I thought would ask. If you took a stock Duramax and added a hot tune (just pick one) and the tuned a stock 6.0 (something good like from Innovative), how would they compare?

The tuned Dura-Crap is much faster out of the box. Just think of how bad the stock injectors are in the 6.0..........Dura-Crap would walk it.

My stock Lb7, with only a trans done, netted 465rwhp with a hot tune. My 2005 6.0 did just under 400hp with stock sticks, but a lot done to her to keep it together.

Dang, I didn't know there was a juge difference. If you replaced the Injectors in a 6.0, would that help close the gap? Also, don't you have to do osmething to the Allison to kkep it from limping when you put tunes to it?
Thanks

I'm not sure it's the injectors in of themselves that's an issue. It's the fuel delivery system. I think it would help more to do away with the dead- head delivery system and that would help out exponentially.

Now if you want to go the route of Tungston coated plungers etc(which I've done) then that will really help out on the occasional fuel psi loss for whatever reason, but I would say that it's more to do with the dead heading then the injectors themselves.

Injectors aren't cheap, and then you need more air to burn the extra fuel..

The Ally 1000 can go into limp mode once you add 80 or so HP IIRC.. The TorqShift behind 6.0l's can also go into limp mode.. The tranny will go into direct drive right off the line.. It'll feel like you're pulling a freight car full of bricks.. You have to pull off a real bonehead move to get it to limp.. I've done it..

Dmaxs are a little lighter also, which works to their advantage..

Since you've done the Injectors, Turbo, & plungers, what do you think your 6.0 is putting out in ponies?

508 hp; 721 ft/lbs. You have to remember to, mine are more of the conservative mods then most. I have 155 mm^3 injectors and a 64mm turbo. I could probably have done 190s with my turbo, but towing is a major concern with me as well. I love the setup though, wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Funny, in the real world all those Duramax's are not as fast as they would tend to be. I ran into one at the local drag strip, stacked programmers, one was a PPE+2, lift pump and SunCoast trans....some kind of lock up and a bunch of other go fasty items.....I still walked away from him. Maybe those big chrome stacks put wind resistance on his times.....

Eric Merchant has some nice trucks which lay down some real numbers, maybe these other owners are wannabes who do not get the right combinations that work.

With the right tuning the dmaxes are fast. They have a weight advantage, injector advantage and turbo advantage out of the box. The tranny is the limiting factor. Our trucks are pretty dang quick with a tuner and pretty reliable with that one mod. The key to either truck winning is 1) the driver. 2) the tuning.
