Ok, I can rebuild them, but I need help when it comes to troubleshooting them. My truck has been running fine ,til today. Now the carburator floods all the time. The thing is, gas comes out of the to of the carburator. I know I havn't set the choke and that is probabaly part of the problem. But what about the gas overflowing from the carburator. The engine is a 351M w/ 2bl. carb. motorcraft. All stock. I have approximately 700 miles on the new engine. The carb. is new also. Help please. Jesse

It sounds to me like your needle and seat is stuck open and is overflowing the bowl.
If it started all of a sudden then you must have a piece of dirt in it. Tap on the bowl with a screwdriver handle and try to knock out the dirt (not too hard though).
If it has been doing it since the carb was rebuilt then the float level could be too high or the float could be binding up and not closing.
The float valve isn't closing for any of the following reasons:
1. The C-clip that holds the float onto it's shaft has come off allowing the float to slide off. (I'm thinking Holley. I forget if it's the same setup on the Motorcraft.)
2. The fuel pump is too powerful and is overriding the valve.
3. As mentioned before, there's dirt in the valve seat.
I doubt if wacking will help. You're probably going to have to tear into it.
I just had a similar problem on a 351W with a recent rebuilt carb installed. All of a sudden it would overflow through the breather stacks while at idle. You can simply remove the top cover on the carb to get to the float assembly.
My carb was still clean but there was a definite pieces of silicone pinched between the needle and seat thus the float never shut off the gas flow.
