Cylinder or switch?

So here's the problem.
I was out and about today and at one point got into my truck and it would not start.
I jumped the relay and figured it was the problem and since I had a spare at home, I would change it out. I did but it didn't solve problem.
Now when it occurred today, I felt that the key was turning far enough past the run position. This is a new to me truck though, so thought perhaps that was the way it was and I just didn't notice. Well, shorty after changing the relay, and cleaning wires...I got in at one point to start and it fired right up. I then noticed that the key/ignition was turning well past the run position to engage the starter.

When the problem occurred the key seems to go in and out fine, turns the cylinder back to acc. position and forwards no problem, but just past the run postion, it was like it was dead end...In other words it didn't feel like it was catching or binding....just not able to turn all the way to start position.

Any ideas guys????
Has anyone had this problem.
I have Googled repeatedly but found nothing on this problem.

Sounds like the cylinder to me I would pull your covers off of the column and take a look around first.

Shortstep, ...I will have to do just that I guess.
It has not done it again and so It will now wait till it happens again, or until springtime when I start working on my Bronco and taking care of what needs to be done to the pickup.
I've double checked the position of where it stopped turning. From the run position, you can turn just a bit more before you feel "where the spring catches" as it engages the starter. It was at this point that it just would not turn anymore.
I will mention that the ignition is one of those that I guess has worn out so that the key can be removed while in the run position(or any other position). I never believed this to be connected, since I've driven a few vehicles like that with no problems and my last truck(94f150) was like that for the two and a half years I owned the truck with no problems.

I actually don't mind that...I find it handy. Although I have reached my destination on occasion and reach down to turn off the truck and then have to figure out where my keys are. On my last truck, you could take the key out, but not dare move the ignition without the key in it, because the outer ring and inner cylinder were not locked together and it would take forever to get the key back in if someone moved the outer ring without the key & I could use any Ford key to start my 94. With my 99, that is not a problem, plus you actually need the pats key to start it.
