After plugging in my trailer my daughter informed me that my right-rear tail light wasn't working.Checked the fuses & replaced both bulbs & still no light action. As this was pretty much pushing my technical skills to the edge of the abyss, I could use some advice. Thanks guys.
I wired a female plug to my trailer & plugged it in. No right trailer light. I unplugged it & no right truck tail-light. Don't know how long it's been out.
Where did you run the ground from the trailer plug connector?
You may have overloaded the stock grounds and burnt one up.
Specifically the one for the right tail light.
When I reworked my trailer light plug, I ran a ground wire 8 AWG from the plug to the battery negative terminal.
I also tied my bed lights into the ground wire as well.
Depending on the trailer, you could have a rather large load on the ground wires, lights, electric brakes and batteries.
The trailer plug ground is to the trailer frame. Did you run the 8 ga. ground from the male/ truck recp't. to the battery & also run heavier ground on the trailer?
