Is there a substantial quality difference between a Ford bedliner and an aftermarket one? I found one locally here brand new for $250 CDN ($230 US), which seems awfully cheap. My truck has a 5.5' box.
Drop-ins are all made of the same thing, polyethylene. However, some might advertise a less slippery surface. Personally, I think $230 U.S is too high. You should be able to find one for $150 U.S.
I'll put my two cents in. Having owned trucks with drop in bed liners for years, found that they held up well-did not remove the bed paint and if your rough up the surface they not so slippery but as to rough on the knees, can't help you there. One thing that I never thought of till I had a spray in liner, is that you can now see the dents in the bed where with the drop in, if they were there, you didn't see them. I went with a spray in for this truck only because I felt I would be giving it lighter use than the 3/4 ton trucks. Chris
So I've done a bit more research. Although I'm considering a spray-in liner, I'm sort of leaning toward a drop-in because of the types of things I'll have in there at times. A bedrug may look nice and all but will not be practical for my needs. I may wait until Spring and take a drive down to Buffalo to get a drop in put in. Man, Spring is just 5 weeks away...woohoo!
I have the factory drop-in and like it alot since I tend to throw things in there. The slippery surface suits me fine because I can slide heavy items and sheet lumber accross the bed. Its usually covered by the toneau so I think it'll last a good long while.
Just pulled out my factory bedliner this weekend and installed a Bedrug and Bakflip F1 in my 2010 Lariat Supercrew. Thinking about putting my bedliner on Craigslist for $100. Wouldn't make much sense to do the eBay thing, considering that shipping it would be a nightmare and probably very expensive.
So I ended up going with an aftermarket drop-in. I love it. It's just what I needed and it does have an anti-slip surface. Couldn't see myself with any of the other options.
