c6 transmission question/advice
O.K., long story short; I was putting the tranny back in my truck today and had something crazy happen (I've put tons of tranny's in and this is truly a first!). I was tightening the bell housing bolts and the f#ck##g bell housing cracked! It was sliding in perfect, I just think I had the tranny at the wrong angle. Anyway, now what? I have a c6 2wd tranny but what would it take to change the tailpiece to accept the transfer case? Or do I take this opportunity to look for something else that has overdrive? The motor is a 460 if it matters and if I look for something with overdrive what would I need to look for that my np205 transfer case would still bolt up to? I've never rebuilt a tranny so is it a major job to change the tailpiece? Or could a welding shop weld the broken bell housing? Appreciate any responses

To change the tailshaft you will need to remove all the guts from the tranny.
Everytime I have seen someone crack one is because the torque converter studs were not in the holes in the flexplate, and it is possible you also damaged the front pump on it.

I made absolutly sure the torque converter bolts were lined up, but who knows. So to remove the guts, I assume everything comes out the bellhousing after removing the valve body. Am I going to have a pile of loose parts or does everything come out in one piece? Only me would something like this happen to! Thanks
