79 Supercab
yes they made them.
no you cannot put a supercab cab on a regular frame,(the wheelbase is not right anyway).
no you cannot shorten a longbed supercab either without extreme mods.(different frame width?)
just go buy one, I see three in the paper today alone.(sacramento)
>build one ie: supercab onto a
>reg cab long box frame.
I'm in the process of building one right now, in fact I just test fitted the cab yesterday. I have run into two problems so far. The rear cab mounts are way different, I had a set made up. Also the frame crossmember where the parking brake cable goes through lines up perfectly with a floor support beam on the cab. This means the cab will settle on the crossmember before it even gets near the rear mounts. But I'm putting in a 3" body lift to fix that. Other than finding and shortening a box for it I don't see any more problems.
my best friend in high school had a 1979 f-150 xlt super cab it was solid midnight blue and it had a 460. it gets my vote for the toughest truck ever! we had a blast in that truck. he drove it up until about 1994. find a good clean one and cherish it forever, it will last that long.
