e4od problem

hey guys, first time posting here. i have a 95 f250 4x4 with 5.8 and e4od. i was pulling a 14 foot trailer with OD in the on position. on the last hill before home when it shifted from OD to third it was like it went to second, but it didn't. the transmission work great, shifts smooth, but it seems like it holds on to each gear too long. first gear seems too short(almost like a bulldog gear)but shifts to second, third fine. but take awhile to shift to OD. but all shifts are smooth when they happen. it seems to me that the motor is just revving too high in all gears. have not had a chance to pull codes yet. fluid looks new(not too old since change). just looking for a push in which direction to look. seems like it should be something simple.

When was the last time the fluid was changed? Fluid level? Do you have an external cooler? How many miles on the transmission?

i would say about 35,000 since fluid and filter change. the fluid level is in the crosshatch marks on dipstick, but sometimes seems to be a bit high. yes it does have an external cooler on it and the tranny has 138,000 miles on it.
i am going to pull the codes first chance i get and see if there is any. could the filter have come loose causing these symptoms?

Could be a filter problem. Typical first symptom of a dropped filter is no reverse, but maybe yours is not fully dropped away from the pickup.

You said the overdrive was on? I thought overdrive was supposed to be off when towing large loads?

your right overdrive should be off, but i forgot to do it. i tried to pull the codes yesterday but never could get the check engine light to flash, i was grounded to the battery. i know the light works because it came on yesterday while driving. i was in a hurry so i will try again when i have a little more time. maybe the plug is a little corroded from no protection from the weather. i am definitely going to pull the pan and change the fluid and filter next chance i get.
