Hi All Yeah, My water pump is not working. (Leaking) and I am REALLY afraid
to drive the truck, because the temp gauge went off the chart in 1 mile! But
when I stopped the truck, The engine didn't seem hot. No funny burning up smell
they make when they get too hot. Hell I dunno, Maybe it's already fried.
I am going to have it towed to a shop tomorrow, My biggest question is: How
long should it take to replace the water pump on a 1986 F-250 460 auto.
Just trying to figure out how much it will cost. Also going to have em' look at
the oil pressure sending unit. It read's off the chart as well. Thanks
Check the fuel gauge too....if all three are wacky you have a problem with the Instrument Voltage Regulator (IVR). Its a very common problem. Unless water is pouring out of the water pump, it likely won't cause massive overheating.
Did you by any chance have the headlights on, if so try it without the headlights and post back. If your water pump is leaking you DO need a new one, but the guages are probably a separate issue.
