im looking at getting a 5er toy hauler. one that i like is a 36 foot, with a dry weight of 10,000lbs, i just wanted to know if that is a little heavy for my 250, the current owner has a 350 DRW so i was unsure thanks
My B&W Gooseneck hitch is rated for 30K, would i wanna tow that no, but that truck is rated for more than u think.
GW is the only rating Ford backs in terms of stopping. There is no way to know how much weight the truck is actually carrying without weighing it with the trailer hooked up. These trucks will pull a train. They just can't stop one.
Does your truck have the rear overload springs and rear swaybar setup? Those will help a lot. If not you'll definitely want airbags or similar. It really boils down to what you are comfortable with. You WILL be over the trucks ratings, trust me. But there are lots of people towing that much weight and more with an F250, myself included. Just my 2 cents.
By the way, you really need to be looking at the GVWR of the toy hauler, not the dry weight. Nobody hauls one empty, and the dry weight is without any optional euipment or anything.
All towing limits depend on is personal comfort level or what others are doing? Interesting.

steve, I'm pretty sure that's not what I said. I even pointed out that he would exceed the trucks limits and said that it was just my opinion. I think my opinion deserves the same amount of respect as your's does. Thank you.

Bob,
I respect opinions, but how much a truck is rated to stop is not a matter anyone's opinion, including mine. Ford puts that number in print. There is a liability issue when one decides to exceed gross weight ratings.
If you ever get checked at any scales just hope your not over what the manufacturers rating is or you WILL get fined. I know there are tons of people out there towing over weight, just not me. I researched this with the state police and the DOT, I wanted a gooseneck trailer that would carry 20K lbs. but since the truck is not rated for that I had to settle on a smaller trailer. This is in black and white in any DOT drivers handbook. Not my opinion.
