I pointed it out to the wife about how sharp it looked, but if it was the same one I was thinking of it was a long long way from home! LOL

The two things I noticed in particular were the black covers at the bottom of the back fender corners and the door handles had been painted the way someone suggested in a post in that thread.

Funny the things you notice.

thank you, yeah it is i know i my eye catchs every excursion i see now just to check it out lol.

i hope to have all the plastic junk painted to match soon, tax returns come on!

We're discovering there's almost a little "club" of EX owners, whenever we see one at a stoplight there's always a salute or wave from the other driver.

In the past week I've counted at least 3 others that are grey like ours, 2 red ones, a blue one, 2 black ones, 2 or more green ones (EB models, could have been the same one a couple times), and perhaps 4 white ones.

I thought there were only 200,000 of these rascals made, it looks like most of them are here in Bulloch County, GA

Yeah, and I think the rest of them live around Charlotte, NC. It seems everywhere i look there's another one. Maybe it's that deal that once you get one it seems like they come out of the woodwork.

Maybe we're now just up higher where we can see them better!

I think I'll start taking pics of every one I see, might be an interesting project.

Trucks in the Lone Star state? Oh that just can't be! LOL

We used to go visit an uncle in Caldwell TX back in the 1960s and I was always in awe of his International Travelall, a dark blue 1958 model with a T-bird engine. It seemed like you were outdoors even inside that behemoth.

Same here, I've been watching an old International on Ebay, a panel model no less, with no engine or tranny...that's all I need around here; one more project.

It can get in line behind all the other projects.

Also wasn't saying you were being critical, just thought I hadn't specified it was a Limited so no harm intended!

Are you by chance in the car selling biz? As much as I have always loved cars they're the one thing I've never sold and it seems like I've sold everything else.

You did specify that yours is a limited. I quoted the XLT auction price because there were no sales stats on a 2wd limited for 03... sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

And yes, I'm in the car sales biz... sort of. My buddy owns an auto brokerage (rather than carrying an inventory, you tell him what you want and he finds it at the auction and buys it), and I'm technically a salesperson for him. I really just buy and sell a couple cars a year for myself and friends and family...

And to the guy who called me a buzzkill... I hope that wasn't how I came across... My buddy probably could have saved you a few hundred bucks on your car, but I doubt if he could have done it for much less than $6200-6500, plus you'd be buying the car virtually sight unseen.. So there are some tradeoffs.

However, sometimes, you can save a TOOOON of cash using an auto broker. We got my girlfriend's dad a 2009 BMW M5 with 8k miles last april for $59k. That's nearly $50k off the sticker price, and it's $13k less than the cheapest one that's on Auto Trader right now, almost a year later..

Hey I appreciate the offer , our purchase was more a "crime of opportunity" rather than a long term search for a new car but I understand where you are coming from about brokering autos.

When we weighed the option of fixing the Expedition which would likely have come to over $5K (there's a crunched door and a rear fender that got bent some time back, a cracked windshield, it's an endless list) and we'd still have a car with more than 300K miles.

Excursions for some reason are very rare on the lots around here, and when we saw this one and it fit so many of our criteria, we just pounced on it.

I wasn't even scared by the miles on the clock, I've been running Fords since the early 90s (2 Crown Vics, a Marquis, a Town Car, the Expe, and an F-150) and have pushed them all way past 100K miles with very little maintenance). Ok, the F-150 is still a baby with only 89K.

Since we put about 40 to 50K miles a year on the primary wheels, if we get 5 years out of Big E we're way below our $2K a year target. That's why we budgeted $10K for it but in our estimation came out way ahead.

As I'm sure you know, buying cars can be a crapshoot and there was a moment's hesitation when stroking that check, but from what we're seeing so far it should have been a worthwhile investment.

I'm something of an auto broker myself, the more old cars I drag home the broker I get!

I guess I don't get to the big city much anymore here in GA, but it sure seems like big rides like you describe are as numerous around here as their more sedan-like brethren.

Man, that's the damned truth. I've lost my *** on a couple cars in the past 2 years...I lost $5,000 on a 2007 Honda Odyssey that I drove for 6 months (yeah, that was embarrassing. A 30 year old single dude driving a minivan for 6 months) and a 2006 VW Jetta that I lost about $3k on because it popped out of gear and rolled into my neighbors house (the only time I've EVER forgotten to set my parking brake).

My excursion makes me broke, but at least I enjoy getting there with it, haha...

Ouch! That could be for the Jetta or for having to drive the minivan.

Seriously though, cars can be very expensive mistresses but they are an addiction I can't give up

There was an old saying that used to show up in Old Cars Weekly and some other classic car mags back in the 70s when you could get away with saying it; "Another wife is always available, another classic is hard to find"

(fortunately my wife doesn't read this...if she does I'll declare it was hackers that wrote that) not me...

My wife will usually come over and read, or I read it to her when she hears me chuckling at something on here.

That gives you a great budget up front for some of the upgrades then. Good show.
