Okay, I just changed my fuel filter and oil. It started and ran just fine after oil change, then I did the fuel filter change. I changed both filters according to these procedures:
I did add the upgraded drain plug. I torqued the caps to the right specs. I kept the key on for 30 seconds 3 times.
The truck started just fine and I backed it out of the garage and it was running fine. I opened the door to get out too open up the mirrors and it started running rough. About 30 seconds later, just after I got out, it died.
I tried restarting and it turns, and tries to start, then dies. I used my SCT to check for codes and I don't have any, at least that show up (other than the EGR codes).
I toggled the key again and I can hear the fuel pump running with the key on, then this time, as the fuel pump stopped, I heard a light clunk. Tried starting again and it turns and tries turning over and when it does, it stops.
One odd thing, not sure if this matters. When I took the upper fuel filter off and used the turkey baster to drain the fuel, I noticed a small o-ring in there. I placed that back on thing sticking up in the middle and put the new fuel filter on that.
I think your new filter would have had the o ring inside it, take off the cap, remove the filter, I bet you have two o rings and one needs to be removed. Make sure you put a bit of oil on the o ring on the cap so it doesnt bind and fits in snug when you torque it down. When you cycle the key, 2 - 3 times, listen for the electric fuel pump to stop on the third try, meaning everything is full, the try and crank it. Hope this is all thats going on. You may have to check the lower one as well, are you leaking fuel, if you open up your new drain valve on the bottom? Atleast the fuel should be there after a few key cycles. I dont normally have to drain much from the top, if I do the bottom first and have a low fuel tank, never had a problem, but I have caught this o ring issue on the upper filter a few times.

Thanks for the reponse. That is what I was thinking, but wanted to wait til I got a response on here.
One response was to put fuel or additive in the upper housing. Well I don't have fuel, would it be okay to put some diesel kleen in there as I do have a bunch of that. LOL
And I am using Racor filters from dieselsite, so they are the correct ones.
