After what you just told me in that PM, I think your wife would let you bring the damn engine in the kitchen and wash it in the sink and she wouldn't give a damn.
i went for a short drive to walmart 4 miles and it was very sluggish got more atf drained it again was black came home still sluggish
How many times do you recommend basting my power steering reservoir?
You dont have to go for a drive if you dont want. just stick the tires on some dirt so they turn easier than cement.
Just suck it all out. fill it back up, turn the tires back and fourth 3 or 4 times full turn each way. and bast again. Keep doing it till the fluid stays red. or Red-er.
might have to drive it for a week and bast it again.
Few bottles of ATF to do it is way cheeper than a gear box or PS pump and install. =-)
Sounds like the pump is trashed. At least you got it flushed out good now. That will make a difference in how long the new one lasts. Do you have the tools to get the pulley on and off?
Oh, I've rebuilt engines, transmissions, transfer cases and even painted parts of a car indoors before. She only lets me get away with it when it's below zero outside though. And if it's her car I'm working on generally.
so i parked on soft dirt so i could turn steering wheel easier and emptied reservoir with said baster put new fluids in let engine run then turned wheels but I have to give it gas to turn the wheels and when I turned the truck off to go look at reservoir it looked like it sprayed the fluid everywhere. does that mean that i have a huge hole or crack where it is spraying everything?
It will burp out the cap when you try to turn the wheel with the engine off. Or when the pump isn't pumping. Whatever you do don't go to autozone for a new pump. I have used a bunch from all the parts stores and those are the worst. Most places will rent you the remover, installer tool for next to nothing if you don't have one.
Where are you? I'm sure someone from here would help out if you were close to any of us. A shop is going to require at least one ******** and possibly your next born kid to do it.
The discharge hose coming from the pump has been known to blow the ring. Mine did that on a U turn. Check that connection point as they go bad. And yes there is no fixing it you have to buy a new hose. Follow the instructions on tightening it or you can damage the pump. I MHO you may have had a leak for some time and ran the pump low and the fluid got burned. Anyhow check the hose and post back.
