Went to go out hunting today and found the road to where I go blocked by a train.
Seems that in the middle of town they had a train derail at 3:45 this morning... and yes I mean IN THE MIDDLE OF TOWN. The train is virtually 1 block from the town square LOL.
And it looks like the cars fell off on the straight stretch ....
Yeah it's a straight stretch about 1/8th mile long right there. I have a feeling the track broke. I know that section IMO has needed replaced for a long time. they ran ribbon rail through here at one time but have repaired that section atleast 6 different times that I know of. You can see where they cut out and splice in a section, and one place (I think where the lead car that fell off the tracks went off) has a splice within a splice that was just done this summer. I walk over that spot everyday on my daily walks and even though I know that loaded trains will flex the rails there is 1 10-15ft section that you can watch it shove the ties 3-4" deeper. That can't be good on it. Plus I know I have seen small areas where the top of the rail has chunks missing out of it.
Bet it gets fixed right this next year LOL.
Oh and the really good part was they didn't have to wait for someone to call the cops to get it reported, the lead car that jumped almost landed in the cop shop yard.
Well now that's a silly question, you just KNOW I wasn't going to let a little thing like a train stop me from going hunting. And yes I got another deer.

Sounds like either (A) a soft spot in the ballast that someone let go for too long or (B) broke rail/stripped joint (where two pieces of rail come together). With cold weather it could have been a little of both. Coal trains are murder on track & infrastructure due to their weight (12k to 14k tons)...they just beat the ever living snot out of what thier on.
Glad to hear you got to not only go hunt but bag one.
And deer season is almost over, today is the last day so might go out again this evening, and see if I can fill this last tag. Only got 4 this year.
Sounds like ya'll season is about the same as our. Bow closes today, black powder ended the first of the month and modern gun was over before Christmas.
ours is actually backwards of that. Bow and muzzle loader ended Jan 10. Southern 2 tier counties then have rifle season from Jan 11- Jan 31.
but I use my muzzle loader in rifle season (you can use them in any season except straight bow) Dang thing does great job on white tails and frankly the furthest I have shot one this year was 60yrds so no real need for a 7mm mag (although I did just buy another one of those too)
Dang you guys ... I think I live in the wrong state ... Here ya gotta choose what weapon you want to use ... One hunt/one deer ... Unless you get in on a drawing ... There was a drawing for multi-season hunt tho so not all is lost ...
But we do have to toss back any sturgeon fish that is over 54" long ... Dang ... I wanted to keep that 8 footer too ...
