good things come from bad things

so yesterday i went to straight pipe my ford by eliminating the muffler well from what everyone said and i was under the impression of was the exhaust pipe was 3 in diameter so i didnt even check before i started to hack up my exhaust. well after i cut the mufflerout i went to put on the 3in to 3in adaptor sleeve and discovered that it ws not 3in opps my exhaust is hacked beyond welding back so right now im running an exhaust that ends after the pipe i replaced the cat with . (talk about loud). so come monday ill be ordering striaght pipe 4in. im excited

haha ya that can be agrivating but atleast now you get a nice new exhaust. Performance Truck Products has the best deals on exhaust that i found when i was looking for mine. I got an MBRP S.S. 4" turbo back with a 5" SS tip for just over $400 shipped to my door with 2 day air. And there customer service was great, they called me up the next morning to make sure that the order was correct and which tip I wanted. But they also have other systems for less than $300, and other manufacturers too

Richard, Did you have problems with the mbrp downpipe? I have heard many negative things about them. However i just looked at performance truck parts and its all very good priced so i was just curious.

In one of the other threads on here i came across this "I got a 3" MBRP down pipe from a source I won't mention a couple weeks ago and it's a total PIECE OF CRAP. Don't get one of those. I returned it and ended up getting a Grand Rock pipe from Diesel Performance Plus"

I had no problem with it what so ever. I remember reading that thread aswell and it made no sense to me. I had my original exhaust all cut out and my Banks DP taken out and the the entire MBRP exhaust put back in in under 3 hours. And that was in the middle of the winter in a cold garage with 3 of my buddies messin with my stuff tryin to eff me up lol. I also fixed my firewall while i was in there so that there was PLENTY of room for the DP so i never had to worry about it. The only thing that I would do differently next time is i would go to store.airflow.com and get a 3" donaldson band clamp to clad the 2 piece DP together because the one that is supplied in the kit is a POS if you ask me. But other than that it slid right into the stock hanger locations and worked just fine. I would rate the install a 9.5 out of 10.

Ya the only thing that i could think of when i read that is that the person got it and because he wasn't using the rest of an MBRP exhuast it wasn't a full DP. The MBRP pipe is a 2 piece and the top piece is just like any other DP but the bottom piece is connected to the intermidiate pipe so you would need to come up with the second half of it if you weren't using thier exhaust. But with something like that you shouldnt be using a brand specific part and not using the rest of it. The only reason that Banks DP works good is becuase they keep the cat in their exhaust for the OBS so they have to include the second piece.

I'm one of the guys that have problems with the MBRP pipe, but clay is helping me figure out why. mine actually has been hitting my bellhousing and the firewall a little bit. we used a portapower to push the firewall in on mine a bunch. its pushed wayyyy in. most ppl are just pushing the seam of the pinch weld in a little bit, but thats not where mine hits. i'm not sure if the ZF5 bellhousing is bigger than the E4OD, but mine just hits and is about to rub all the way through the downpipe. luckily no damage to the bellhousing yet. haha. hopefully Clay can help see why mine hits with all the pics i sent him.

Richard, is yours an auto? Maybe the mbrp pipe has problems on the manuals and thats where the complaints are coming from?
