Hi all. Some of you MAY remember me as 68 ranger. That truck is gone.
I just bought a 86 F-250 3/4 ton, 460 C-6 auto. Problems started right after I
got it. It was daylight when I bought it. When I had to use the headlights, BYE BYE
BATTERY!!!! It sucks to only own somthing for 2 hours and have to call AAA
for a rescue. Spent $100.00 on new battery, But it's NOT charging. Anything I can
check? I am stuck 150 miles from home! (Quincy, CA.)
Most likely a volt regulator, then probably the alternator next. Check to make sure the alternator wires are tight and not corroded and the battery connections are clean and tight. Just had this issue with my Bronco today!
It should be a 2G alternator.
If it is turning you should check to see if the plug on the back is melted and shorting internally.
This is a common fault with these alternators.
