A couple of weeks ago I decided to tackle some mechanical issues I have with my F-250. I joined FTE after seeing some very informative threads on a search engine. Since I began the work I've had nothing but good information given to me by FTE members. Thanks very much, I've posted an album if you're interested in the project I've been asking so many questions about.
I'm sure I'll be hitting ya'all up again for great tech info again soon. Maybe tomorrow!
Thanks Bill,
It helps as well when you have a fairly decent base to build on. It was borderline in that respect as far as I was concerened but only because I had an idea about just how much sweat equity I wanted to contribute. My wife is totally not on board lol. I guess it's a Ford thing she just doesn't understand. Keeps me off the streets, she knows where I am and what I'm drinking. Thanks so much for all the help you've given me on this. I really appreciate it. (my wife too, the "***** that wasn't it" budget is lookin good)
No problem...as they say, good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement. I've screwed up about everything you can screw up on one of these trucks. I don't mind sharing the experiences so that others don't screw up, especially when wives are watching the budget.
Thanks Josh, It's all paint mainly, I figured since I had the intake off it would be a good time to shoot the heads, valve covers and upper engine parts. I did it all in place with some masking except for the intake. Kj
I do the same type of "smuggling" - I keep coming home with more things than she thinks I was buying. They sometimes stay in the car until she goes to bed.
I just viewed your album, kjay. Very nice, solid looking truck! Your headliner is "interesting".....!
As far as the engine paint color goes, gray is actually the correct factory color for the engine. In the early 1960s, the correct color for Ford engines would have been "Old Ford Blue," which is a lighter blue. From the mid 1960s to the early 1980s, the correct color for Ford engines would have been Ford Corporate Blue, which is a dark or navy blue. After 1981 (I think) Ford started painted their engines Ford Gray.
Most engines of this vintage have since been rebuilt, and most people (including the former owner of my '85 Lariat) ending up re-painting the engines the more traditional Ford Blue.
Thanks for looking LARIAT 85, I could tell it had always been grey but didn't recall seeing it on others. I swapped out a 302 for a friend of mine not too long ago and every JY mill they had lined up was the Ford blue. I've had mostly the same response from people here about the headliner as yours. The fabric was black and red and went with the B&R theme I already had going. It was easy enough, I might laminate another layer if I see another piece I like better. So, I've read alot of your posts and I gotta say you know your stuff. Thanks for all the advise, opinions you've given me since I joined up. It's been very helpful to me.
