Recently bought 1997 F250 diesel. Having problem soon after start up. Approx 30 sec's after starting I normally hear a pressure release sound for a few sec's, let it warm up a little and off and running. Over the last week or so the pressure release sound upon start up has been off and on. If I don't hear it the truck idles fine but under light throttle a lot of hesitation, it slowly clears out the more I step on the pedal. Truck always starts and and might run fine or not, I never know what to expect. I put a new exhaust back pressure sensor in and I cleanded the vent tube which had quite a bit of residue build up still having same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in CT on the shoreline. Temps have been 15 - 50 degrees over the last week, still had problem regardless of the weather. All fluids are at correct levels. When I replaced the EBP sensor the old sensor looked about half plugged. Truck has 150,000 miles all stock, except K&N air filter. Could the accelerator pedal posistion sensor be the issue? If so can you buy just the sensor. My local dealer said I had to buy the whole pedal assembly, $450
That would be the EBPV itself closing it is controlled by the oil temp if your oil temp is cold it will close the valve to help warm the engine the sensor and tube you cleaned is the Exhaust back pressure sensor it tells the valve to open when on the fuel by sensing the back pressure you can unplug the EBPV itself to disable it ,just unplug the connector to it the connector is under the orange hose on the turbo compressor itself two wire plug wont hurt a thing and will get rid of that silly noise.
