1st thing to do is go buy a manual if you don't have one yet.

go to ebay for ford service manuals or get non ford company from auto parts store.

the best thing you will ever do.

Good looking truck if I do say so myself. Those '87 Flaresides aren't easy to come by. If your looking for any help/ideas on modifying it to make it look better, give me a shout. I'm currently rebuilding a '90 from the ground up into a show truck, so I'm full of ideas!

As for ideas Id be glad to hear any. so throw them out lol

I have some myself Life a chrome stack coming up from the passenger side step. (kinda like the Lil' red express from dodge)

I think lew52 was talking about the 'pusher bar' that is currently in red primer as the chrome bumper looks fine ..

I agree the black and chrome look is definatly the way to go! Chrome is my favorite color, followed closely by red. As far as ideas go here are a few of mine:

Swap out the "custom" headlights for a set of "XLT Lariat" ones with the chrome band around the outside.

Ditch the red grille guard for a new chrome one from JCW with the light guards, they look really good on these trucks.

Update the square tube grille for a new billet one with 4mm bars. You can find them on Ebay for more than half the cost of buying one from LMC or JCW.
If you don't like the tube grille look, go back stock chrome, they look good too.

Swap out the "trailer tow" style mirrors for a regular set from a 92-96, they stil have a big mirror in them so you can see, and will really help the looks.

If your dead set on exhaust stacks, then do 2 instead of one. It will balance out the look. I personally don't care for them, I like 3" chrome tips angled on the 45 after the axle. Stacks belong on big rigs.

New LED tailights will help update the truck, LMC Truck carries them.

If you like cowl hoods, and want to put one on the truck, they are out there for this body style. Fiberconcepts.com or carhoods.com offers fiberglass versions, have yet to find a steel one.

I have some pics of some of these mods on different trucks, including the cowl hood, and the brush guard/grille guard combo with a billet grille installed, if you want 'em I'll send them to you. Also, check your PM's

I Liked the idea of a new grill, I looked at the LMC catolog and also found those head lights. (those are going to the to buy list lol)

THey also have those "westren Mirrors in the LMC magizine. I Like the looks of those. I'd have too see the hood cowls before i decide on them.

Also pm checked

Well the hood thing was just a thought. Some people don't think they exist for these trucks because they are hard to find. I have the fiber concepts cowl hood for mine and it really makes the truck stand out. I'm guessing from your comments about stacks and western mirrors your going for the trucker look?? That's fine if that's what your into. The great thing about custom trucks is that they're an expression of the owner!

I like chrome too .. but just for 'trim' items .. it doesn't belong under the hood as it is a barrier to radiant heat (ie: it keeps heat from getting out) .. and heat kills motors ..

Yikes! Then don't look under my hood!! Actually most of my stuff is polished aluminum, but for the most part it's the same difference. But hey, I'm building a show truck, not a dragster, so it'll be fine for cruising the strip or sitting in a show field. The only thing I don't like about chrome under the hood is that it's so hard to keep polished and clean.
