Locking the converter
I would like to be able to manually lock the converter in my 2004 diesel Excursion. The responses I got said it could not be done on the 04s.
Let me amend my question. Can the 03 CPU be directly substituted for the 04 and then be able to lock the converter?
My reason for asking is while towing in Tow Haul the up shifts are greatly delayed causing the engine to over rev for the load. I would like to be able to lock the converter while in 3rd. and traveling at speeds below 55 mph.
Your 4R100 (or is it a torqueshift?) transmission is similar to the E4OD. I can't remember what year they changed it.
But you can probably do what I did to use my E4OD in my 1955 F-600.
I will be using a Baumann Engr controller. Baumann Electronic Controls Home Page
I'm not completely sure so you'll need to contact Karl Baumann and ask him if you can replace the FOMOCO controller with his.
If you can, you'll be able to custom program all the shift points and TC lockup/release points with a laptop.
Cheers,
Rick
I use the sct tuner from innovative which can be programmed to lock the converter from 2nd gear on up....
with a load ? dunno, would give eric a call to see what are the limits....
all I know is I love when tooling around in top gear and need to go, al I do is give it fuel, no downshift, no pause, no noise, it just GOES, and pushes you back in the seat....
best part of the tuner !!!
good luck !
