I wanted to get to the bottom of this, DO THROTTLE BODY SPACERS WORK? I have seen this argument over and over everywhere and everyone has their own opinion. My question was do they work, has anyone installed it and did it improve anything. I am not buying one I just always hear people talking about it and wanted to find out more. There are some independent dyno results that have shown improvement in HP ans TQ. Some people say it will improve gas mileage, I don't see how it would make a noticeable difference.
They improve performance for carburetors and throttle body injected vehicles. They do not improve anything on multi-port fuel injected vehicles. The reason for the difference is that with carbs and TBI the air/fuel mixing happens in the throat of the throttle body. Adding spacers lengthens the throat and allows a more thorough mixing of the atomized molecules. With MPFI vehicles, the mixing happens down in the intake port for each individual cylinder and only air passes through the throttle body not fuel, so no mixing occurs there.
That's what I thought, I have seen many different results from different vehicles but nobody could prove that they did anything bad as long as they installed them correctly. Then there's the debate between smooth bore spacers and spiral but I wont get into that. Thanks for the reply.
I have a the Poweraid TB Spacer on mine with the spirals inside, works great. Did notice an increase from idle to mid range. The small whistle sound is cool and isn't as annoying as I have heard some people say it is, also it only whistles and your really opening up the throttle. I think it's a great add on if you have some extra cash
