So I bought my truck in April with zero battery problems. They died in October one weekend when I let the truck sit. I drove the vehicle and was able to go til Saturday until I charged it, drove fine. Well now four months later and 3 more charges, my batteries are not holding a charge. I load tested them about a month ago and they were fine, but that was a few days after a full charge. I charged them two nights ago and today after work they were completey dead.
The other key to the puzzle is I have the inductive heating flash, not the current, but the old one that sucks the power. Also, the truck was purchased new in Februay 2006, and the original batteries were replaced in January 2007 and these ones are from June 2008, and are not factory. They are made by Crown. The question is, for anyone that has owned these, do they suck? Do they have a warranty? I don't see it in on the website, he!! I don't even see a location by me that sells these. I am in Spokane, a long ways from Ohio.
So please let me know your thoughts. After spending a couple grand to get the truck right, spending $400 in die hards does not sounds like a lot of fun for me.
I've had the AGM Diehard P2's for two months now and nothing compares to their cranking capability in cold weather! I guess in Spokane it doesn't get as cold as it does here in norhtern, IL so if your on a buget it probably doesn't matter. I've tried Wally World Everstart for $75 each, 3 year free replacement, 86 month prorated and they seemed to crank as good as Fords OEM batteries when new.
My truck generally gets the best, yes even my Stealth TT does not get the same treatment but then it doesn't really need it either.

I have a little over a year on the Diehard Platinum P2's and they are still cranking today as they did when they were new. So far I am really happy with them. They are expensive though.
I have the walmart everstart batteries and the work great here in utah where it can get quite cold. I would check with a volt meter to make sure your alternator is working correctly.
Well after I charge them, she starts up fine. The batteries die when the truck is sitting, so I think it is a gremlin since this is the third set. And the volt meter on the dash, when in test mode while driving reads 13.5 or so even with headlights /fog lights on.
You probably have a shorted cell in one of them. Replace them before they cost you the alternator and possibly the 1,000 buck ficm. Replace them in pairs only.
I would also test your FICM as well. It really doesn't like electrical issues of any type. I don't exactly think the FICM is related to to your issues that you are having, I'm just thinking that it something that you want to make sure isn't getting "hurt" by all of this.

I agree, from everything I've read batteries are pretty much a regular maintenance item. Replace every few years. I went with a set of the NAPA Legend 75 850CCA batteries after my alternator died and am happy so far. (But for future reference dont get NAPA alternators. Under warranty but i'm on my second one in a year and I hear from friends that thats pretty common with their ALTS.) Good cranks even when our temp's were in the single digits. Less than 200 bucks a set if i remember right.
Yeah took it in to a dealer that tested the cells and one cell was dead. It read over 14 volts while running so the alternator is fine. Replaced them with what he said were 970 CCA Exide batterys for about $200. I haven't checked the sticker, but that seems high given DieHard platinums are only 930.
I had heard bad things about Exide in the past, so was not too thrilled, but I know they make the batteries for several other brands. The guy said they make DieHard and Kirkland (Costco, and best buy from consumer reports) batteries, but I could not confirm that online.
So, we will see in a few days. Thanks for all the responses!
