I will be pulling my E40D tranny to replace the front pump seal and would like to upgrade my TC at that time. Since I carry a very heavy P/U camper (4800 #) it is only a matter of time before I could experience problems with it. What are some recommendations for a replacement TC, source and cost. I was told that Ford had offered a heavier duty replacement but have been unable to find any information on it. Does anyone know if this is correct?
Thanks,
if money is no concern than id go with the ats 5star. i think its good to something rediculous like 2000 ftlbs of torque. they also have their triple disc converter for a bit cheaper that is good to 1500 ftlbs. i think the triple disc is like $950 and the 5 disc is like $1200. ats has a really good warranty too. someday ill have one in mine
I give my vote to giving Bill at RacerX a call and talk to him about you exact needs, he offers an amazing product and they realy know there stuff. He's got probably the cheapest prices around for upgraded parts and it is a very good part. You are probably looking at between 500 and 1200 for a convertor depending on which one you go with.
Ya but i think that im building a little bit more and its GREAT keeping that up there. The only thing that I am jealous of you guys and your standards is that i can't drop the clutch at 25mph and blow it out sideways lol. But that more of a I just dont have enough power yet......I feel the PMS comin on lol
I'm more of a stick fan, but now that you mention losing boost...
I borrowed a cube van F450 one time from a buddy that had it as a company truck. I couldn't believe how bad the boost loss was. Our big turbo with no waste gate and no variable vanes really sucks when you shift. I took it across a mountain range and back and I really hesitated to shift each time because of how much speed it lost each shift. I really had to make sure it was wound to the top before I shifted or I'd lose too much RPMs in the higher gear to make it. I bet the 6.blow is much nicer in this regard.
The other thing about them... I blew out my left knee a few years back. I couldn't drive my truck for about 2 weeks, and then when I could I about cried each time I had to push in the clutch for the next 6 weeks.
Even with all of that, I still think I'd rather have the stick.
another for RacerX TC's. Or you could go with the Stallion TC which is what BTS uses. And I don't know if they are still in business or not, but Outlaw Diesel has a TC they advertise if you can break it they will give you a free TC for life. Never heard anyone use it yet.
I'm liking the sounds of that unbreakable TC. I might have to buy one and break it just to keep getting free ones haha.
William- my cusins truck is a 5speed with ones and tunes and it will rip out sideways if you dump the clutch in second and it will spin them in 3rd. but the kid he just bought it from had put a new stock replacement clutch in it like 1000 miles ago.
Ya, I've never tried to do it in his truck but i've seen it do it in 2nd twice and i saw his spin in 3rd. I tried not to be hard on it the other day when i had to borrow it to go to school, seein as its not my truck and i wouldnt want him to do that to mine lol. I just can't wait until he finally gets a real clutch in the thing so that we can see what it can really do. Maybe I'll finally have someone that will race me and not be a complete embaresment for them haha.
