just got a beater 66 f-100 and i'm in LOVE. Dude said it was a 352 but my old Chilton's says the "Y" in position 4 means a 390 w/ a 2bb. it shows only 4bb carbs on 352 (with an "X"). It also says a "Z" engine code would mean 390 with a 4bb. The car has a 2bb on it and a "Y" in the vin. Is the chilton's manual correct? Is there another way to tell on the engine itself maybe? Am I asking too many questions?
For 1966 trucks the VIN decode was pretty easy...only 1 V8 was ever offered from Ford in the F100-250 truck which was the 352 which in the VIN IS code Y, Anything else denotes a 6 cylinder.
