When I bought my truck 4 years ago i knew absolutely nothing about diesels except that i needed one. I came to this forum to listen & to learn & to help if I could (not very often) & I have gained some small amount of knowledge. I have had some problems in the past but their were always people here that were willing & able to help. Sometimes I might ask what seems to some to be a stupid question but that is only my ignorance making itself known, & still you answer the question. Enough with the rambling, I just want to say that I couldn't keep this truck on the road without the help & support that I get here. I know that there are many others like myself that are idiots (concerning diesels ) & rely on all of you & deeply appreciate the help.
Dave S, starmilt and David 85 ( others too, but those are the ones that stand out) have taken me from knowing nothing about IDIs, thier fuel injection systems, turbos or diesels in general and have given me so much info on them that I feel almost as comfortable working on them as my 460 or V10.
Thank you guys for being so patient too, even when I ask retarded questions.
I remeber when I first got on the IDI forum, I thought that more black smoke= more power, and when told that was wrong I argued about it. LOL
right on bro! Good to give these guys a shout out! It means a lot to see posts like this!
I couldn't agree more! The people around here are as helpful as anyone could ever ask and some of them know these trucks better then the guys who designed them in the first place. This place makes owning an IDI a whole lot more fun!
I don't belive anybody driving an idi is an idiot. The idiot types drive things like prious and smartcars. lol Another thing is there is no retarded questions if you don't ask how can we learn period. even some simple thing that you know can sometimes stump you sometimes , and all it takes is someone to remind you what you already knew but are thinking in the wrong direction. And bill I have no desire to even learn a v10s querks.
I am in the same boat as well, this place is awesome
I use this site and oilburners due to the constant traffic flow. I always try and use the search engine and use relative keywords so I can try and get some background info, but have also made some simple topics asking for help with "my" problems and people have come through more than once
We got our first diesel a couple months ago. We knew we had a price range and just wanted an old beater that provided a function. To tow our moderate load and use on ohv land.
I got a feel for these forums and could see it was clear we needed an old idi supercab with 4x4.
We are no techies but with the help of the forum members have rewired it, redone the oil cooler and much more, with more projects to come and are not even $2,000 into the project. Yet we have a truck that functions and seems to run great.
I have lots to still do and what is great is allot of it is just grease work. Take into account the registration and insurance costs and it seems we got a real bang for the buck vehicle that might just outlast our others
yea yea it is not 25 years old neither if my wifes triton makes 25 years I will know an idi will fit long before then.
Ok, you right. Its only 12 years old.lol
If you pulled a triton and put an IDI in it would not be the strangest swap I have seen, there is a guy in the Super duty forum talking about taking a 5.4 out and puting a 460 with a 4 bbl. and C6 in.
