i got a 61 ford f250 uni and put a duralast alternator part number DL707P its off a 79 ford f 250 if i remember correctly. well the problem is i either wire it correctly with all the wires wired in all the designated place from the voltage regulator F to field on the alternator S on the volt reg to the stator on the alt. A on the volt reg to the battery starter solenoid. and I to the ignition. when i start the engine at idle its at 30 amps driving its at +60 amps. Is that too many amps?
and if i take the connection A on the volt reg off and I directly to the battery it runs perfect at 30 amps not over not under, but if i turn my truck off and leave everything connected my battery dies. whats going on? do i have a wrong volt reg or alternator or wiring not correct?

A very simple and cheep sugestion. Install a GM 1 wire alternator. They push about 70amps, Work well, and cost less then $100. I cut a short length of black pipe as a spacer. Bought a long 7/16 bolt. Tapped out my existing hole a bit and threw my voltage regulator and generator into a pail.
The whole shebang cost about $100. I do this to all my fords. The thing is so simple and reliable that it would be crazy not to unless this is a conccours vehicle.
They were fairly universal. I think the pully size may have been slightly different on various applicartions but the body was about the same. If you go this route there is only one wire to hook up. You run a lead from the Bat terminal on the alt to the positive terminal on the battery. Use good wire. 10 Ga minimum. I also belive I had to find a shorter fan belt.
