I know the stuff you're talking about from tearing apart a few cars. It's as strong as anything if it stays clean, but I was tearing up an 88 Caddillac last summer for a demo, and that had alot of water in it, and there was some rot, and the adhesive that looked like like it had gotten weathered just cracked right off. I also wouldn't be sure about that for something weight bearing, like the bed.
I really don't know though, your call.

the floor in my 78 is pretty bent up,not really rusty just probably hauled a fair bit of fire wood in its day.I was going to cut the center section of the floor out of a 95 box I have here.they only have 6 mounting bolts in them instead of the eight, but the dimple is in the floor for the other two.a friend of mine restored his 75 a few years ago and just bougt some aftermarket full sides and put them on a 90's box,it was a bit of work but it turned out beautiful when he was done.
Mine is a short bed don't know about finding a bed floor that would work and I would have to purchase the whole bed. I am a little concerned about useing just the adhesive was going to use some pop rivets also. May just have a friend weld them in I can weld but do not have a welder.
O OK.
I mean this is probably more than you want to get into for just this one project, but if you're doing alot more stuff on this truck, or cars, or really like any big work on metal stuff, I'd reccomend buying a cheap welder. I got a used one on craigslist for 125$ with wire and some equipment, and I have been using it constantly ever since.
Will do! would like to know. Just talked to my cousin he used it on the front of his ranger bed and said it cracked and broke loose in 1 yr. good thing is he has a mig welder I can use. still curious about the adhesive for other applications. The panels from JCW are 20 ga I measured my floor at 18 ga but with the paint don't know maybe 20 ga also. ordered the panels tonight free shipping ends at mid night. Would like to thank every one for there input! I sure I will have more ???
Thanks John.
LMC does not have a short bed bed pan for the 79. NPDonline has a 90's short bed, bed pan.
i would get a 1994 to 1996 short bed from the yard and cut off your good bed sides
and weld them in place of the 90's bed sides. try to save as much of the sides as
you can including the rear tail light sections.
For now its patch panels. If all works out and money permits I may tear it down to the frame and really do it wright. These beds used to be a dime a dozen now there rare in good shape. Many met the crusher when steel went up so high!
