I want to take a moment to thank you for the many post on the 302 cam swap.
I just finished my '86 4x4 302 Comp-Cams swap and I could not be more delighted.
My son and I pulled my 302 - stripped it down to the short block (The engine had good oil pressure and compression from the start - Only 107K miles) and installed the Comp Cams SD compatable cam with double roller timing chain and new lifters.
We did the shorty headers, new 2.5" y-pipe, no cats, to a flowmaster 40 with a 2.5" mandrel bent tail pipe. New plugs, wires, cap, & coil.
I was not sure of the efi sensors so I replaced them all and fixed a couple of problems with wiring harness and I installed eight rebuilt 19# injectors.
Ofcourse new fuel filter, oil filter & cleaned the K&N air filter.
We fired it up last night and timmed it to about 10 BTDC and ran the motor at 2000 rpm for about 25 minutes - it was so smooth I could not belive it.
The truck runs wonderfully - more power than I would have ever thought from the 302. It sounds great too - not too loud - good rumble at idle.
Thanks again - Your post were my guide throught the project and it turned out great.
