Well, i think its finally time to sell the old girl...The last straw was when i came out the other morning to go to work and she was stuck in the driveway..(snowy/icy) so i had to pull it out with the Trailblazer..i got it out and went to work..At noon i went to go warm it up before i went to lunch so i jump in, turn the key, CLICK! I just put a brand new starter in in October..$430 for a gear reduction starter and it's toast..AGAIN...This is the third starter since i bought the truck in April. The funny thing is, i NEVER overheat the starter...15 second cranks at most and let it cool for 3 minutes. I dont know what else to do but i cannot afford to have this truck be down on me all the time..So anyways i'm stuck driving the Chebby all week, or until i can replace the warranteed starter and sell the truck!!
Is the truck a 2wd? Mine goes like mad in the snow and ice even with worn out tires. Something else has to be going on electrical wise to keep burning starters like that. I would start checking and cleaning grounds.
No it's 4wd but we had 1.5 inches of rain on top of our snow last week and the driveway is on a slant. I have no clue what the deal is with the electrical..I bought two new batteries last month because after the new starter it seemed to crank real slow still. I may have some kind of issue with the battery cables to the starter but would that cause the starters to go? I'm an electrical retard when it comes to vehicles.

Yes it is very possible to need cable replacement. Is the insullation split or discolored near the terminals? My question is why do you crank it so long? Are you having hard starts every morning? On the coldest mornings I don't think my truck will crank 2 seconds before it's up and runnin.

Just put her in 4 low and she should climb out of anything!

Ok you for sure have a problem if it was cranking slow with brand new batteries when starter was new. The slow cranking is probably what's killing the starters. First thing to do is pull every ground one at a time in the engine compartment and polish were it connects and the connector itself until it shines then put it back on. Also check your battery cables for bulges... that's an indicator of a spot were you have corrosion inside the cable. Also pull and polish the connection from the passenger battery to the solenoid on the fire wall.
Once you clean the bad spot or spots it should crank over nice and fast with those new batteries and a new starter.
you can't do much for ice besides a set of chains.this isn't the trucks fault of course.
new batteries and starter are about worthless with 18+ year old corroded cables.
my truck turned has been turning over slowly so today i took the ground wire from the passenger batt to the block disconnected it fron the block and cleaned it off with some degreaser and then took a couple swipes with sand paper and put it back on and when i turned the key i about crapped because of how fast she spun.it seriously startled me.lol i guess thats needed to be done for a while.lol
if you run tires much wider than stock it will be worthless i did for one year and they came off fast i will never rum them wide tires again.in my opinion they are garbage
yeah! that's the way.make them contact points shine once in awhile.it costs nothing and makes a big difference doesn't it.
many people forget the other ends of those cables and only clean the terminals.
tires,
yeah big tires are great for style/ground cleance & mud.
worthless for everything else unfortunately.traction robing for winter,$ grabbing fuel hoggs, and power robbers to boot.
