I'm not expecting that much from this system. hoping for 4mpg gain and I'm not concerned about making big HP numbers. this is a work truck and I use it to haul my skidsteer and mowing equipment all over KY.
tell me what a meth injection system cost in comparison to the propane system I bought?
same here timothy i just need it for the grapevine or going up 58 from bakersfield twards palmdale. other then that it will stay off. and i often pull 12-16k behind
I write the mileage down on a fuel reciept every time I fuel, gallons to three decimal places on the reciept.
When I get home, those figures are transfered into a spread sheet that I keep track of my truck expenses with.
If I select it, cost per mile goes out to 15 decimal places.
I can tell you, when you figure in the cost of propane, the cost savings is next to nothing.
You just use the fuel dollars you save to refill the propane tank.
My truck records on the computer go back 15 years, so I have a rather good base to compare my costs to.
Figure in the extra time to fill the propane tank, no savings at all.
All the extra power, not worth the lost time messing with propane.
As far as the incredable MPG, if you run enough propane you don't need to touch the throttle, so it could be possible.
And that MPG number would be diesel fuel only.
But, if it costs you 100 dollars in diesel to drive X miles, then you add propane and it costs you 40 dollars in diesel and 60 dollars in propane to drive the same X miles, where is the savings?
again I DONT CARE ABOUT HP GAIN OR MPG. time isnt an issue cause where i fuel they have a propane tank fill station there. i hold 139 gallons of diesel and would hold around 40 gallons of propane so i would only have one stop. i could also fill from my home tank (1000 gallon) and i get that about half the price per gallon it costs to fill up at a regular station. money isnt the issue, time isnt the issue. getting up that damn hill without melting my engine and not having to back down to 2nd gear and 25 mph to do it is worth it to me.
