Hey you guys, here is my situation. I own a 79 F-250 4x4. It has a 351M in it, married to a C6 automatic. I also have a 75 F-250 4x2. It has a 390 in it, with a standard trans. The cabs are already in the process of being switched, so the question to you guys is " what, in your opinion, should be swapped into the 4x4.

Which rear ends are in which? If you have a 9" in the 79, and a Dana 60 in the 4x2, get the right gears and swap em.. (you don't have too, the 9" holds up good, but the 60 is a bit better)

if they both have 60's then ummm....uhhh...take all the lower-milage items..=-)

Nailbeater, you will have to swich the steering column for the auto. Unless your 390 was added, it's more likely a 360. The 2 to 4 wheel stuff don't usually work, without a lot of work.

Just had a similar scenario in my garage. Have a 78 250 4x4 that had a rotted out cab. I acquired (free dollars) an abandoned 79 250 2x4 w/ 460 c6 a/c and a nice dry country cab and bed.

I had to swap out clutch/brake pedal assy as I have 4 spd and the 4x4 steering column amongst other little no brainer stuff. Since it was an abandoned truck I didnt have keys to it so I had to swap the ignition switch insert and the door locks.

There were no major differences in my wiring. You may want to look over the wiring prior to dismantling and just double check since there is 5 years difference in your cabs.

I got three of my buddies, some steaks and a case of beer and about half hour later the cab bolts were in.

Have fun

BH

I have NO clue if the dana 60 full-floater was standard in F250...I would've imagined that the 9" was a standard axles though..could be wrong.

From what I have ever known, the 9 inch axle is strictly a 1/2 ton axle, and the Dana 60 is commonly used in 3/4 ton trucks.

Do you know if there are any differances in cabs or the way they mount in the 70's cabs?

What makes you think it's a 390?
