Hello Gents. Trying to decide what route I want to take with the axles. trying to decide between blast and powder and a whire wheel and rust bullet. So who has blasted and powdercoated their axles? was it a bare axle or were the guts left in it? Did you have any problems with media in unwanted places? would you do it again? I know a big part of it will be in the prep work just wanting to see others experiences. thanks

You probably want to strip the axle to powder coat it. They heat them up to 400+ degrees and I don't think that would be too good for the seals. The other thing would be the possibiltiy of warping the housing. I know I have seen it done though.

I did the Rust Bullet treatment to my axle housings. I do wish I went the powder coat rout when I powder coated my frame and other metal parts. The price was about $100.00 more, for both front\rear axles. I was just to lazy\busy to take them apart at the time. As far as media in unwanted spaces, they only coat the outer surface, they do a good job of protecting threaded parts, and you just blow out the inside of the axle housing with compresed air and chase the pumpkin\housing cover threads with a self bottoming tap.
A tip... wrap your spindle's from end to end in duct tape and place your old pininion seal in the housing, minus the rubber portion of the seal...")
I really dont want to disassemble the axle any farther than I already have it which is just doing a rear disc conversion so looks like rust bullet it will be
I did the wire brush thing. If you blast, you will get media where you don't want it guaranteed. If you don't want to dissassemble, do the wire brush and rust bullet.
