Ok this is a little diffrent from the ussual exhaust questions. My problem is "noise", there is a lot of hissing and air noise.I have installed the SPD y-pipe, It helped but there is still noise beyond 2800rpm's at the passengers feet.
Even witht he y-pipe there is a pretty good "S" bend in the pipe, so I figure that has to be where the noise is coming from. I hate to waste my time and money, but it loks like the only solution is to redo the entire system from the headers to the convertor.
Has anyone had any luck fixing this? FYI I have gibson headers and cat-back so I feel there is enough flow and I have hecked and double checked the header to collector joint.
Are you sure you don't have any leaks? The catalytic converter flange weld on my '01 cracked and was leaking pretty good, based on the soot around the crack.

One question...Have you ever owned a vehicle with tubular headers before?
They make a sound like what you're describing, and if you don't know what to expect, you can easily assume that there's a problem.

Good point, I have. This noise has been present since I've owned the truck. It's gotten progressivly better with each step. Added SPD y-pipe less noise, added gibson headers less noise. But there is still noise from about 2800 rpm's to redline. Under normal driving conditions I don't rev past 2-2200 rpm's so it not an issue. when I tow my camper or boat, which is what the truck is for(it not a DD) I spend more time in the middle rpm range. Power doesn't seem to be affected, just annoying.
